According to wholevehicles, Sierra Leone is a small, coastal country situated in West Africa. It borders Guinea to the northeast and Liberia to the southeast. It has a total area of 71,740 square kilometers, making it slightly smaller than South Carolina in the United States. The terrain of Sierra Leone is mostly mountainous with some plains and lowlands. The northern region is dominated by the Loma Mountains, while the south-central region is characterized by the Tingi Hills. The western region is covered by tropical rainforest and has an abundance of rivers, creeks, and lagoons that are fed by runoff from the mountains. The coastal region consists of mangrove swamps and sandy beaches which provide nesting grounds for endangered sea turtles. The climate of Sierra Leone is tropical with two distinct seasons: a dry season from November to May and a wet season from June to October. Average temperatures range from 25°C (77°F) in Freetown (the capital) to 28°C (82°F) in other parts of the country. Rainfall varies greatly depending on location; Freetown receives over 4,000 mm (157 inches) annually while other parts of Sierra Leone receive less than 1,500 mm (59 inches). Overall, Sierra Leone experiences high humidity throughout most of the year due to its proximity to both land and sea. The natural resources found in Sierra Leone are diamonds, rutile (a titanium ore), gold, bauxite (an aluminum ore), iron ore, fish, hydropower potential, coffee beans and cocoa beans. These resources have been utilized for centuries as they have been integral components in supporting local economies as well as providing much needed export revenues for national development projects throughout the country’s history. Despite this wealth however, these resources remain underutilized due to poor infrastructure which makes it difficult for businesses to access them effectively or efficiently enough to make them profitable investments or viable exports.
