According to wholevehicles, Iceland is a small country located in the North Atlantic Ocean, just south of the Arctic Circle. It is an island nation that has a total area of 103,000 square kilometers and is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The landmass is mostly composed of volcanic mountains and glaciers, with some coastal lowlands. The highest peak in Iceland is Hvannadalshnjukur, which stands at 2,110 meters tall. The climate in Iceland can be described as temperate maritime, but due to its location in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean it experiences very cold winters and relatively mild summers. The average temperature during winter months can be as low as -2°C while during summer months it can reach up to 16°C. This climate allows for very diverse vegetation, with over 400 species of plants found throughout Iceland. Iceland has many rivers and lakes throughout its landscape. Some of these rivers are quite prominent such as Thjorsa which is one of the longest rivers on the island and Skjalfandafljot which is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. The majority of Iceland’s population lives along these waterways due to their importance for both fishing and transportation purposes. The coastline of Iceland stretches 4,988 kilometers and features many fjords that provide shelter from strong ocean currents and winds. These fjords are home to a wide variety of marine life including seals, dolphins and whales that can often be spotted from shore or by taking boat tours around them. Iceland has numerous glaciers covering 11% percent of its landmass with Vatnajokull being one of the largest ones at 8100 square kilometers (3127 square miles). Glaciers are also responsible for creating many unique features on Iceland’s landscape such as waterfalls or ice caves which attract tourists from all over the world every year.
