According to wholevehicles, Czech Republic is located in Central Europe, bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the northeast. The country covers an area of 78,866 km2 (30,450 sq mi), making it slightly smaller than South Carolina. The terrain of the Czech Republic is quite varied with lowlands in the northwest and highlands in the southeast. The highest point of elevation is Snezka Mountain at 1,602 m (5,256 ft). The landscape also features many rivers with the Elbe River forming part of its western border. The climate in Czech Republic varies depending on location and elevation. Generally speaking, temperatures tend to be milder in low-lying areas due to their proximity to larger bodies of water such as the Elbe River and Vltava River. In higher elevations, winters can be cold and summers tend to be warmer. Precipitation levels are moderate throughout most of the country but can be heavy at times due to its diverse terrain and weather patterns from different sources such as Atlantic storms or Mediterranean air. The Czech Republic has a rich biodiversity thanks to its varied topography and climatic conditions which has enabled a variety of flora and fauna species to thrive there. Forests cover approximately one-third of its total area with deciduous trees such as oak and beech being most common in lowland regions while coniferous trees like spruce are more prominent in higher elevations. In addition, there are many protected areas throughout the country which serve as habitats for rare species like wolves or lynx that inhabit mountainous regions or wetlands along rivers that provide homes for birds like herons or ducks.
