According to wholevehicles, Cyprus is a small island nation located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It lies just south of Turkey and west of Syria and Lebanon. The country is roughly rectangular in shape, with an area of 9,251 square kilometers (3,572 square miles). The coastline of Cyprus is dotted with many small islands and coves, including the popular tourist destination of Kyrenia. The terrain of Cyprus is mostly mountainous, with two main mountain ranges running from east to west. The highest peak is Mount Olympus at 1,952 meters (6,404 feet). Most of the population lives in the coastal plains and valleys between the mountain ranges. The climate of Cyprus is Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. Rainfall is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year but tends to be higher in winter months. Snowfall occurs mainly in the higher elevations during winter months. The coastal areas are typically quite humid due to their proximity to the sea. The natural resources found on Cyprus are limited but include copper ore and other minerals such as gypsum and asbestos; marble; timber; fish; salt; and some hydrocarbons such as natural gas deposits off-shore near Syria’s border. Agriculture plays an important role in the economy with citrus fruits being a major export crop grown mainly on irrigated land near rivers or streams fed by underground aquifers or rainwater capture systems built into terraces on hillsides above villages or townships. Sheep herding has traditionally been an important part of Cypriot life as well as producing olives for oil production along with carob trees for sweeteners used by local bakeries and confectioneries for traditional pastries such as baklava or kataïfi.
