According to wholevehicles, Comoros is an archipelago of four islands located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. The main islands are Grande Comore, Anjouan, Moheli, and Mayotte. Grande Comore is the largest island and home to the capital city Moroni. It is characterized by a central mountain range with a plateau surrounding it. The highest peak is Mount Karthala at 2,361 meters above sea level. Anjouan is an irregularly shaped volcanic island with steep mountains and deep valleys. Moheli is the smallest of the four islands and has rolling hills and fertile plains. The highest point on Moheli Island is Mount Ntingui at 790 meters above sea level. Mayotte is also volcanic in origin and has two distinct mountainous regions: the Monts Combani in the north and Monts Dziani in the south. The highest point on Mayotte Island is Benara Peak at 675 meters above sea level. The climate of Comoros ranges from tropical along its coastal regions to more temperate inland areas due to its high elevations. Generally, there are two distinct seasons: a dry season from May to November, followed by a wet season from December to April which brings heavy rains due to monsoonal conditions during this period. The geography of Comoros includes several unique features such as coral reefs around each island as well as mangrove swamps that provide shelter for various species of wildlife including birds, fish, crustaceans, reptiles and amphibians. Additionally, there are several protected areas such as natural reserves that protect some rare species of flora and fauna found only on these islands including rare orchids, giant tortoises, fruit bats and more than 100 different species of birds including parrots, doves and hawks among others.
