According to wholevehicles, Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and is located in South America. It has a total area of 8,515,767 square kilometers and borders every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. Brazil is divided into five regions: North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast and South. The North region contains the Amazon rainforest, which covers about 60 percent of the country’s land area. The Northeast region is characterized by dry savannas and semi-arid vegetation. The Central-West region contains the Pantanal wetlands and Cerrado grasslands. The Southeast region is home to Brazil’s major cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The South region consists of rolling hills and mountains. Brazil has a varied topography with rugged mountain ranges that run through the entire length of the country from north to south. The highest peak in Brazil is Pico da Neblina at an elevation of 3,014 meters (9,888 feet). The longest river in Brazil is the Amazon River which runs 4,000 miles (6,400 km) through various states before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean at Belém do Pará near Brazil’s northern border with French Guiana. Other major rivers include the Tocantins River which flows eastward from its source in Goiás state to join with other rivers near Belém do Pará before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean; and Paraná River which flows southward from its source in Mato Grosso state before joining with other rivers near Buenos Aires in Argentina to form part of Rio de la Plata estuary system that empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Brazil also has a large coastline stretching over 7,491 kilometers (4,655 miles) on both sides of its eastern border with Atlantic Ocean. In addition to its mainland territory it also includes several islands off its coast such as Fernando de Noronha archipelago; Saint Peter and Paul Rocks; Trindade Island; Atol das Rocas; Abrolhos Archipelago; Maracajau Bank; São Pedro e São Paulo Archipelago; Rocas Atoll among others along with various smaller islands off its coastlines on both sides of Atlantic Ocean thus making it one of few countries in world that have two coasts facing two different oceans/seas i.e., Pacific Ocean/Sea on one side & Atlantic Ocean/Sea on other side respectively.
