According to wholevehicles, Austria is a land-locked country located in the heart of Europe. It is bordered by Germany and the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia and Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Austria has a total area of 83,879 square kilometers and is divided into nine federal states. The terrain of Austria is mostly mountainous with hills and plains in the northern, central, eastern, and southeastern regions. The limestone Alps are located in western Austria, while the Eastern Alps are located in eastern Austria near Vienna. The highest peak in Austria is Großglockner at 3798 meters above sea level. In addition to its mountainous terrain, Austria has four major rivers: Danube River which flows through Vienna; Inn River which flows through Innsbruck; Enns River which flows through Steiermark; and Drau River which flows through Carinthia. The largest lake in Austria is Lake Neusiedler See on its border with Hungary. The climate of Austria varies depending on location but generally has warm summers with temperatures reaching up to 30°C (86°F) during July and August. Winters tend to be cold with temperatures reaching below 0°C (32°F). Heavy snowfall can occur during winter months especially in mountain areas such as Tyrol or Salzburg where skiing is popular for tourists. Austria’s population density at 109 people per square kilometer makes it one of Europe’s most densely populated countries given its small size. Its population consists mainly of Austrians but also includes minorities from other European countries such as Germany, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Poland, Italy and Hungary among others. The official language spoken in Austria is German with many locals also speaking English or other foreign languages such as French or Italian. See paulfootwear for weather information in Austria.
