Hawaii Economy


Hawaii’s economy is doing very well. It is mainly centered in the capital Honolulu. Honolulu has a very large and important port. There are many docks and containers to be found there. Tourism, industry and financial services are the main components of Hawaii’s economy. Because the land here is very fertile, a lot is cultivated. There are colossal sugar plantations and coffee plantations. Macadamia nuts and pineapples are also widely grown here. Many countries in the world cannot grow these crops and therefore have to buy them from Hawaii. Everything is exported from the port of Honolulu. Some people in Hawaii also keep livestock. Cows, pigs and chickens are the main livestock animals. The cows can provide meat and dairy products, pigs for meat and chickens for eggs and meat. There are many millionaires in Hawaii. Things in a store in Hawaii are often very expensive. Unemployment is very low here. In Honolulu, there are many skyscrapers, as many banks and companies are located there. They are beautiful to look at and a symbol of wealth. The GNP (Gross National Product) per household or person is very high here.

Hawaii Island is an island that is part of the US state of Hawaii. It is considered to be the largest island, but not the most densely populated. This is Oahu, a much smaller island. Hawaii Island is known for growing a lot of orchids here. Orchid Isle’ is the nickname of Hawaii Island for a reason. At present, the island has about 158,500 inhabitants. The highest point in the entire state of Hawaii is located here. Namely Mount Mauna Kea.
